Vacuuming can extend the life of your carpet. Carpets should be vacuumed at least once a week. Two times per week is recommended. Dirt acts as an abrasive. Every time you walk on it you are wearing your carpet, actually scratching the carpet fibers. Over time this way most people vacuum is incorrect. You are removing the most soil when your vacuum is on the backwards stoke. So the common zigzag pattern is missing much of the soil, So pull the vacuum backwards in a straight line and then move it over to the next section. Then pull it backwards again in a straight line. The may take a little time, but will make you carpet last longer and may increase the time between cleanings.
